Pearls are formed to protect a mollusc from a parasite or grit. When it comes to traditional European engagement rings, people have been encouraged to desire diamonds, flawless and the bigger the better. The concepts of value signified by precious stones, imposed by patriarchal and heteronormative standards, are outdated. In this ring the pearl absorbs the traditional engagement ring, covering it in layers of nacre and rejecting it the way a mollusc rejects a parasite.
Sterling silver and white sapphire ring absorbed by a freeform pearl.
I do not recommend this as a ring for daily wear due to the fragile nature of pearls.
