Pearls are formed to protect a mollusc from a parasite or grit. The concepts of value in adornment, imposed by patriarchal and heteronormative standards, are outdated. In this necklace, the pearl absorbs a traditional chain, covering it in layers of nacre and rejecting it the way a mollusc rejects a parasite.
Sterling silver chain absorbed by a freeform pearl.
I do not recommend this as a necklace for daily wear due to the fragile nature of pearls. Keep away from perfumes and harsh chemicals.
